Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru Blanc 2023
The 2023 pours a pale, shimmering gold with green highlights — crystalline and intensely transparent, signalling purity over richness. The nose is immediately dominated by Corton-Charlemagne’s mineral identity: crushed chalk, wet limestone, flint, and a faint smoky graphite note, before green apple, white pear, and lemon zest emerge with razor-sharp precision. White flowers and subtle almond skin add a restrained aromatic lift.
On the palate, the wine is taut and electric, driven by piercing acidity that gives vertical energy and definition. The fruit is chiselled rather than generous, layered over a powerful mineral core of chalk, oyster shell, and stone.
The mid-palate gains depth through savoury nuances — hazelnut, preserved lemon, beeswax — without ever becoming heavy or oaky. Texture is silky but linear, more tensile wire than cream.
The finish is long and austere, almost entirely mineral, with chalk, flint, and salt persisting for over a minute as the fruit recedes into a citrus memory. A Grand Cru of precision and restraint, built for long evolution.
