Batard Montrachet Grand Cru 2023
The 2023 pours a luminous pale gold with green-silver highlights — richer and more resonant than Corton-Charlemagne, reflecting Bâtard-Montrachet’s deeper soils while retaining Pacalet’s crystalline transparency. The nose is immediately grand: ripe white peach, golden apple, apricot, mango, and citrus curd, unfolding with layered precision rather than heaviness. Acacia, honeysuckle, orange blossom, and jasmine form an expansive floral halo, while a deep limestone core of chalk, oyster shell, and wet stone anchors the wine with quiet authority.
On the palate, this is grand white Burgundy at full scale yet without excess weight. The texture is broad, silky, and naturally glyceric, giving real volume without oak-derived fatness. Bright, precise acidity cuts through the richness, keeping the wine vertical and energetic rather than opulent or heavy.
The mid-palate builds in complexity: white peach and citrus layered with hazelnut, beeswax, honeycomb, truffle, and a saline mineral spine. Everything feels integrated, with fruit, floral lift, and limestone structure moving in harmony rather than contrast.
The finish is very long and layered, shifting from ripe fruit to chalk, oyster shell, and toasted nuts, ending on a clean mineral echo that persists for minutes. A Bâtard-Montrachet of both power and restraint, built for decades of evolution while offering early aromatic brilliance.
