Châteauneuf du Pape Générations Gaston-Philippe 2022
The Cuvée des Générations Gaston-Philippe is Château de la Gardine's heritage red — the estate's historic signature, made only from the lowest yields of its oldest vines, some more than a century old. It's a blend of roughly equal parts Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, hand-harvested with strict sorting, and aged entirely in new French oak for 12 months, which gives it far more density and structure than the Tradition. The 2022 comes from a cooler vintage that produced fully ripe tannins alongside fresh, vibrant aromatics.
The nose is deep and layered, with concentrated black fruit, sweet spice, licorice and the toasty, well-integrated oak this cuvée is known for. On the palate it's full-bodied and structured, dense and firm, with fine-grained tannins and real length. It's a young wine built for the long haul — decant it hard now, or lay it down for the better part of a decade.
A serious, cellar-worthy Châteauneuf for a collector or a premium list — old vines, prestige élevage, and a wine designed to age gracefully over decades.
